Enhancing Lethality and Survivability at the Tactical Edge

  • The high intensity, mobile, peer-to-peer fight, and the execution of rapid manoeuvre and battle command require the ability for manoeuvre arms at Battle Group and below to engage threats rapidly and accurately with the organic means at their disposal.

  • Digitization of tactical fires drastically reduces Call for Fire processing times and increases accuracy, thereby enhancing lethality.

  • Digitization of tactical fires allows for weapon system dispersion thereby enhancing survivability.

what is tdfs?

  • TDFS is a Team Awareness Kit (TAK) based integrated system that completely digitizes and drastically reduces the time for dynamic Call for Fire (CFF) and first round on target for legacy crew-served direct and indirect weapon systems through a TAK-based CFF APK Plug-In.
  • The TDFS is an innovative combination of in-service/MOTS/COTS software and hardware components that is integrated via TAK. The system can utilize any in-service data capable radio capability (whether Type I encrypted or SBU-E) operating as a mobile ad hoc network (MANET).
  • TDFS is designed to interface with a Tactical Data Link (TDL) Gateway at battalion and/or Brigade for Joint Fires integration. TAK-based Cursor-on-Target (CoT) messages are translated bi-directionally with other message protocols such as Link-16, Link-22, VMF, Joint Range Extension Application Protocol (JREAP-C), and Artillery Systems Cooperation Activities (ASCA).
  • Mounted on weapon, the KWESST Integrated Fires Module (IFM) comprises PNT Sensors, Software, and Advanced Ballistic Algorithms an on-weapon TAK interface.
